Yet Another Mandala – This Time, it’s Fusion

Hey there and Welcome to The Craft House!!

I know I again missed the Month of February and too literally the whole of March and writing today, on last day of the month. But hey!! It’s worth it, you’ll se…

So, as the title says, it’s fusion. The artwork this time is part Mandala and part Pichwai Painting. Took me over a week to conceptualize and finish the whole piece [err….not to mention the number of failed attempts :D]

The Mandala part is done in pen – Micron#005 and Pilot pen – both black color and the Pichwai part is done with acrylic paints.

Without anymore chatter, here is the final outcome for you all….

For this particular post, I’ve picked up Blue Pottery Painting. In next posts of this series there will be two more art forms. So, stay tuned…

Materials used:

  1. Blank White Envelope
  2. Pencil, Eraser & Ruler
  3. Faber Castle Acrylic Colours – Ultramarine Blue & White
  4. Fevicryl 3d Outliner – Pearl Metallic Gold
  5. Fevicryl Glass Colours – Ultramarine Blue & White

Blue Pottery is widely recognized as a traditional craft of Jaipur, though it is Turko-Persian in origin. The name ‘blue pottery’ comes from the eye-catching blue dye used to color the pottery.

The dark ultramarine colour is obtained from cobalt oxide. The common motifs are insipred from Mugal era arabesque patterns, animal and bird motifs.

DIY Basic Envelope Design Series – Part 3 – Pichwai on Envelope

What’s more satisfying than making some of our basic utility items ourselves!

Hey guys! Welcome to The Craft House and welcome to Basic Envelope Design Series.

In this series I’ll be making our very basic money/shagun/gift envelopes and then I’ll be decorating those in five different art forms. This series will therefore have total six posts.

The previous posts were about How to Make Your Own Envelope https://youtu.be/GzJT3s9N10k & Decorating Your Envelope with Mandala https://youtu.be/GOoKceYozi4. For this particular post, I’ve picked up Pichwai Painting. In next posts of this series there will be three more art forms. So, stay tuned…

Materials used:

  1. Blank White Envelope
  2. Pencil, Eraser & Ruler
  3. Faber Castle Acrylic Colours – 12 Shades pack
  4. Rorito Fiber Point Pen – Black colour
  5. Paint Brush #1
  6. Carbon paper (optional)

Pichwai, typically, means ‘hanging at the back’. This painting has its roots in Nathdwara Mandir, Rajasthan, where its done on the walls of the temple, depicting various Leela (activities) of Shreenathji (the local avatar of Lord Krishna).

There are few key elements of this form of painting – the deity himself, lotus flowers, cows and some floral designs.

In my painting in the envelope here, I have included Shreenathji’s face and lotus flowers.

DIY Basic Envelope Design Series – Part 2 – Mandala on Envelope

What’s more satisfying than making some of our basic utility items ourselves!

Hey guys! Welcome to The Craft House and welcome to Basic Envelope Design Series.

In this series I’ll be making our very basic money/shagun/gift envelopes and then I’ll be decorating those in five different art forms. This series will therefore have total six videos.

The previous video https://youtu.be/GzJT3s9N10k was about How to Make Your Own Envelope. For this particular video, I’ve picked up Mandala art to decorate an envelope. In next videos of this series there will be four more art forms. So, stay tuned…

Materials used:

  1. Blank White Envelope
  2. Pencil, Eraser & Ruler
  3. Compass & Protractor
  4. Rorito Fiber Point Pens – Pink & Orange Color

Now, this design is totally up to you. Mandala is an art that allows you to play with shapes and figures as much as you like. You can have as many or few layers in your Mandala and the outcome will always look beautiful.

With this very thought, here I have made my Mandala with nine layers and have drawn simple elements within them.

Do try a design of your own and share the same with us.

Lippan Art Wall Decoration Piece using Fevicryl Mouldit!!

Hi There & Welcome to The Craft House!!

So, the other day I stumbled upon a rather interesting and easy Traditional Indian Art form that hails from western part of the country – Lippan Art or Lippan Kaam!

It comes from the region of Kutchh, Gujarat and is done on walls to keep the houses cool, as that part of country has hot days for most part of the year.

Lippan kaam is basically a decorative design made on walls of houses and is traditionally done with a mix of mud and camel dung (ew!!) as this concoction tends to cool down the walls. These designs or patterns are then decorated with mirrors that reflect the scorching sunrays leading to less absorption of heat by those walls.

This scintillating art is now making its ways into our modern urban homes. What I liked most about this is the simplicity it carries when it comes to making a mural. Yet this combination of clay and mirrors brings so much life and gaiety around.

Here, I have made one such design using Fevicryl mouldit (synthetic clay) on a canvas board. Hope you all will like this…

Bye!!
